Do you have any special experiences while swimming?

I was newly single and on vacation at Club Med in Cancun. I thought it would be an opportunity to get away for awhile and perhaps meet some eligible single women. (I realize that eligible and single are redundant but I think appropriate here.)

It was working out pretty well. I struck up a conversation with a woman from Chicago on the beach in a bikini. We chatted for awhile then she confessed that she always wanted to go topless and would I mind? I managed to feign sophistication and calmly said, “Uh, no.”

We continued our conversation for awhile and she soon got up, put her top on, said goodby and left. Maybe she wasn’t looking for a sophisticate. Hmm.

I had dinner at a group table with an older couple and another very cute single woman. We hit it off and went for a walk on the beach after dinner and shared a kiss or two. Or more. She was nice. Smart, conversant, pretty. We spent some time the next day together and decided to connect again at dinner.

Sat at the same table with the same people. They were fascinating. Apparently too fascinating. During dinner my new friend asked to talk to me outside. Oh Oh.

She complained that I wasn’t paying enough attention to her. I tried to explain that I was just being sociable and besides they were an interesting couple. After dinner we went to her room and I paid attention to her several times…and moved on.

Swimming, right.

So here I am enjoying the tropical waters and snorkeling along the reef that is just off shore. As instructed by the dive/snorkel shop I started several hundred yards up from the beach and let the current slowly pull be towards the beach area. It was amazing. So much so that when I finally looked up I was being pulled a bit out and past the swimmers on the beach.

No problem. I am not a particularly strong swimmer but I can certainly swim back to the beach. So I started stroking towards shore. After a minute or so I looked up and found myself farther out. Holy crap. I really bore down and began to make progress towards shore. It was hard but I was young and in somewhat good shape. The closer I got the more determined I became. And the more tired I became.

I tried to touch bottom a couple of times but was still too deep. I decided that was only making me more tired. So I put my head down and humped as hard as I could. I had no intention of drowning in Mexico.

Exhausted I finally felt the sandy beach with my hands and realized that I was now in about two feet of water, thrashing as hard as I could, trying to save myself. Breathing hard and spitting water I looked up and I was at the feet of two very pretty girls in bikinis. They looked down at me like I just washed up from a garbage scow.

Maybe the clingy kook will have dinner with me tonight.
